Cameras FAQ
Q - I want to buy a Digital Camera, what is the
whole Megapixel thing all about?
A - When we refer to Megapixels, we are talking
about the total number of usable pixels that the sensor in a Digital
Camera has. Pixel is short for picture element. The lens focuses the image
onto a sensor which is divided up into many little sections or pixels. It
is kind of like a mosaic painting. The more pixels you have, the more
detail the image can have. One Megapixel means 1 million pixels. If the
sensor in your camera was 3000 pixels wide by 2000 pixels high, it would
have a total of 6 million pixels, and would be called a 6 Megapixel
camera.
Q - My 35mm point-and-shoot camera
needs to be replaced, should I buy a Digital camera?
A - Digital cameras are a lot of
fun, but they might not always be the answer for everyone. If you are a
serious amateur that likes to use a variety of lenses and techniques, 35mm
is still the way to go. If you just want to print small prints and send
images over the internet to friends and family, a digital camera may just
be the ticket for you. We can produce great prints from either film or
digital at the same price for you.
Q - Do you have any used cameras?
A - Yes, we have a wide selection of used
cameras, lenses and accessories. It can be a great way to get started in
photography without breaking your budget.
Q - Why is it that I can buy a
camera on the internet for less than from you?
A - Often the items you see
advertised on internet websites are what is called "Gray Market" or
"Parallel Imports". They are cameras that were never meant to be imported
and sold in the United States. This means that often they do not have a
valid warranty from the manufacturer. Sometimes, even if you are willing
to pay for a repair (during what would be the normal warranty period) the
manufacturer won't even repair it for a charge. Also, sometimes the item
you buy may be stripped of normal accessories that should be included with
that individual camera. If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably
is.

Photofinishing FAQ
Q - Can I get photo quality prints
from my digital camera?
A - Yes, we have digital printers
that can print reprints and enlargements from your digital camera cards.
They will be the best quality available and no more expensive than
printing from negatives.
Q - Can I get my film scanned to a
CD?
A - Yes, when you have your film
processed and printed, we can scan your negatives and burn the images
onto a CD for you in three different quality levels. The high quality
resolution is great for printing and archiving, the medium quality
resolution is great for emailing and viewing on a PC screen. And the small
quality resolution is used for thumbnail images. You can get all this for
only $4.99 more.
Q - Why do I get an 8"x12" print
instead of and 8"x10" print from a 35mm negative or slide?
A - An 8"x10" print is not
proportionate to a 35mm negative or slide. When a lab prints you an
8"x10" print, they are cropping an inch off of both ends without you even
realizing it. When we print an 8"x12" print, we are giving you the entire
image on the print. If you would like us to trim it down to an 8"x10"
print for you, just ask when you pick up the order. That way you can let
us know exactly where to trim it.
Q - Do you mounts prints?
A - Yes, we can mount photographs
up to 24"x36" on CodaFoam or Styrene. CodaFoam is a high quality foam core
style board that is 1/4" thick and very resistant to warping caused my
moisture. Styrene is .080" thick and great for backing a print that will
be flush mounted in a frame. See our Mounting page for more details.
Q - Can you repair my old damaged photograph?
A - In most cases yes. We have digital
restoration capabilities that can restore your photo. We do not actually
do the work on your original photograph. We scan the photo on a high
quality flatbed scanner, do the repair work on a computer, then produce
new prints for you. View our restoration page under the photofinishing
heading for details.
